GENERAL ASSISTANT – HISTORICA CANADA
Historica Canada offers programs that you can use to explore, learn, and reflect on our history, and what it means to be Canadian. Our programs, all of which are offered bilingually, reach more than 28 million Canadians annually. Our programs are aimed to appeal to Canadians of all ages and backgrounds, although several specifically focus on youth.
Historica Canada’s General Assistant will be an individual who has experience working with a team to achieve deliverables in a timely fashion. The successful candidate will be a strong communicator, and someone who is enthusiastic about sharing Canadian stories in a variety of formats. The successful candidate is organized, results-oriented, and flexible. This position reports to the Manager of Programs & Education.
The responsibilities of the GeneralAssistant include:
- Assisting the communication team with promotional and outreach campaigns for Historica Canada programs, including ongoing social media outreach on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and TikTok;
- Conducting research for various program elements (learning tools, videos, podcasts, general program research), including visual/archival research;
- Assisting with the creation and publication of themed education and promotional materials (eblasts, newsletters, ad copy);
- Handle usage requests for Historica Canada content (coordinating the request documents, entering the details into the database and providing the content to the requester)
- Assist with the upload of content to Historica Canada program websites
- Supporting program coordinator(s) and program manager(s) in the operations of programs;
- Assisting with daily administrative tasks (data entry, invoicing);
- Reporting directlythe Manager of Programs & Education
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- A completed degree in History or a related field, English or Communications, Public History or Museum Studies, Education or other relevant education and experience
- Bilingual (English and French) required;
- Experience working in the non-profit, education, or museum sector an asset
- Experience with online video/meeting platforms an asset (e.g. Zoom, Google Meet, etc.)
- Team player with demonstrated communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work in a fast paced, dynamic environment
- Adaptable to change
- Experience in working with a multi-disciplinary team
- Strong knowledge of Canadian history and an appreciation for Canada an asset
This is a contract position beginning September 2, 2024, and ending March 31, 2025 with the possibility of extension. The annual salary will be $42,000.00 annually pro-rated to $21.03 an hour, less applicable statutory deductions, which will be paid to the successful candidate twice a month.

When Covid-19 public health guidelines allow for it, this position may require travel (air and ground) within Canada and subject to government safety protocols.
