Multiculturalism in Canada
The story of Canada’s first mosque
In the 1930s, a group of determined Muslim women raised funds to create Canada’s first mosque for Edmonton’s growing Muslim community.
By the 1980s, the descendants of those Muslim women would come together to save their mosque. But they would have to fight against prejudice and discrimination to have the mosque recognized as an important part of Edmonton’s history.
