Needle in a Scrapyard: Canada and Demining

Lieutenant-Colonel Normand Levert shares his experiences in demining and mine risk education in former conflict zones around the world.

2022 marks the 25th anniversary of the Ottawa Treaty. Since 1997, Canada has been one of 122 countries that vowed to never use or develop anti-personnel mines again, and to support mine-affected countries through mine clearing and mine risk education. Told through the experiences of a Canadian military engineer, this video describes what led to the creation of the Ottawa Treaty, the impact land mines have on civilians, and methods used to work towards a mine-free future.
